Bill and Mary traveled to the British Open in 1974 with high hopes!  When it  was over, Mary's 48 Kg gold was a  FIRST!
Above is Mary with J. Homminga HOL silver, C. Presswell ENG and A. Staps HOL bronze.  Below Krug pins Stankovic of Yugoslavia in the semi-finals.  Her final match also resulted in ippon by arm bar.

The 1974 State Championship Team completed the competition with the largest margin of victory in Illinois history!  Hosted in Rochelle, the NCIJA dominated the States!

In the sequence below, Coach Bill Maxey is awarded the second place trophy by FILA officials for the USA Team at the Women's First World Sombo Championships in 1983 - Madrid, Spain.  On the US Team were NCIJA super stars Ginger Lewallen 2nd and Brenda Day 1st.
